Epiblast is the fifth album by London-based Brazilian drummer, producer and composer Naná Rizinni.
Written and co-produced over two years with saxophonist and producer Mark Cake, the album was created during Rizinni's first years in London and traces a period of profound transformation shaped by migration, new motherhood, grief, and artistic reinvention.
Blending Brazilian rhythmic traditions with progressive electronics, contemporary jazz and collective improvisation, Epiblast marks the emergence of Rizinni's most distinctive musical language to date. Built alongside Mark Cake and modular synthesist Harry Jones (Lazy H), the record moves between expansive soundscapes, intricate rhythmic interplay and cinematic textures, while remaining rooted in the spontaneity of improvisation.
The title refers to the embryonic layer from which an entire organism develops—a metaphor for multiple births and rebirths, new identities, and the fragile yet limitless potential of beginning again.
